Stamford garden offers a better way to dispose of pumpkins

Fairgate Farm’s capacity for compost is about to get much larger just in time for the post-Halloween pumpkin drop thanks to a new grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Heaps for Health,” as the $25,000 grant is called, will enable Fairgate to install a new compost system and quadruple its current compost limit. The new system is set for installment in early November and Novajosky encourages all to drop off their pumpkins at the farm to help fuel the new pile.

Fairgate leaders also plan to use the grant to boost education efforts about compost in schools and at a free class at the farm in November.
