Volunteers are vital to the success of Fairgate Farm and fulfillment of its mission. Each year we are proud to host and work with several corporations that support employee volunteering. No group is too small, and often the larger the group the greater the impact.
Our corporate volunteer groups are essential contributors to our urban farm in a variety of ways. A typical visit might consist general farm maintenance including planting bed preparation, the planting of seedlings grown in our greenhouse, harvesting of ripened produce or many other seasonal needs. Some groups choose to donate time and materials to accomplish a specific project, while others contribute financially to sponsor projects or purchase equipment that is needed to maintain, improve and sustain the Farm. We have also had partners who choose to support our Farmer’s Market by providing matching funds, up to a specified amount, to those customers in need who are SNAP and WIC eligible. However your group chooses to become involved, it is sure to be a unique team-building experience that will serve to benefit our community as a whole.
The dedication and generosity of our volunteers allows Fairgate Farm to harvest over 5,000 pounds and 150 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers each year. We donate over one-third of our harvest to local hunger-relief organizations and operate a seasonal at-cost Farmer’s Market that supplies fresh, organic produce to our local community. We also serve as an refreshing outdoor classroom to several local schools and community programs, teaching not only the basics of plant life and soil health but also the science behind hydroponics and composting along with the health benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables. We are proud to be such an integral part of the community and are grateful for the continued support of our corporate partners.
