*Coming April 2025*
The Healthy Food, Healthy Mind Outlet is a community fridge, food pantry and free library. The Outlet is located along the Farm’s fence in front of the Farmstand and near the bus stop on Stillwater Ave with 24/7 street access. The purpose of this project is to provide a zero-barrier access point for neighbors to receive and give food, exchange free books, and share information on a community bulletin board.
The books in the free library will be maintained by Books4Everyone, an amazing local non-profit that connects people of all ages to quality books.
The community fridge and pantry will be supplied with produce from Fairgate Farm, as well as donations from local businesses, restaurants and individuals.
This project is dependent on support from all members of the community, whether donating, volunteering to maintain the fridge, keeping the area clean and more, there is always a way to help this amazing resource thrive. Please reach out to Liz at ewimpfheimer@charteroakcommunties.org to set up donations from your business or to volunteer for this project. Please refer to the guidelines below for using the fridge.
Please treat this space with respect! This community resource relies on trust and care for each other to keep working.
Food Pantry: If you have unopened, unexpired food items you do not want, feel free to leave them on the pantry shelves for a neighbor to take. Take what you will use.
Fridge: Any extra fresh produce (vegetables and fruits) that you are not using and haven’t started to rot can be placed in the fridge. Pre-packaged meals and other unopened store-bought goods are welcome. Take what you will use from the fridge as needed. Please no expired or rotting goods, home-made goods, half eaten or otherwise compromised foods, or non-food items.
Book Shelves: Reading materials for all ages welcome. Books in multiple languages are welcome. Please leave books that are in reasonable condition! Take books that you will use and leave what you won’t!
Bulletin Board: Post event flyers, business cards, resources and information related to West Side Stamford on this board! Use it as a space to share and connect with neighbors!
This project was launched due to support from AARP Liveable Communities Grant. A huge thank you to all supporters who have helped us launch this project!”
