Part of our mission at Fairgate Farm is to provide educational opportunities to our school-aged children from first grade – through high school, and beyond.
Fairgate Farm offers formal school tours that include a brief introduction to Fairgate Farm and an overview of urban farming in general. As we walk through the Farm we will learn about topics such as basic plant biology, soil science, compost, greenhouses, pollinators, food systems and climate change, regenerative agriculture, and more. The information provided is tailored to each group age appropriately.
For those interested in a more hands-on-experience, we can arrange an activity where we get our hands dirty by diving into a farm task such as watering, weeding, planting, or harvesting, all depending on the day, season, and group size.
Our Farm experiences typically last from 45-60 minutes. However, we are more than happy to tailor the time and content to meet the needs and schedule of your group.
In order to keep these educational opportunities accessible to all we do not charge a fee, however for those able to do so, a donation to the Farm allows us to keep offering these agricultural experiences to everyone. We also welcome donors and sponsors to help us provide these programs to the community.
If you would like more information or to schedule an educational farm experience, please contact Assistant Farm Manager Liz Wimpfheimer at ewimpfheimer@charteroakcommunities.org or 475-333-1362.
